Meet the lab

Dr Rebecca Grattan

Rebecca leads the Early Intervention in Mental Health lab. Rebecca is a clinical psychologist that trained at the University of Otago, graduating in 2017. Her PhD was focused on the impact of stress responses on schizophrenia risk, and was supervised by Dr Richard Linscott. From 2017 to 2018 she worked for the Southern District Health Board in the Child, Adolescent, Family Mental Health Service and the Paediatrics service. From 2018 to 2020 she was working at the University of California – Davis as a clinician and postdoctoral fellow at the SacEDAPT Early Psychosis Clinic. Rebecca is passionate about understanding how mental health symptoms develop, and using this information to improve early intervention for mental health in a culturally responsive manner. She is particularly interested in early intervention for psychosis. Outside of work she enjoys spending time with her family, getting outdoors hiking and going to the beach, or doing something creative.

Aleesha Mehta

Aleesha is starting her Masters project in the Early Intervention lab, after finishing her honours project with us. Her honours project focused on subclinical psychosis symptoms in Aotearoa.

Kia ora! Last year I completed a Bachelor of Science with a major in Psychology and an outside major in Health Promotion and I am now working toward my honours in Psychology. I hope to pursue a career that combines my passion for Psychology and Health, and contributes to achieving health equity in Aotearoa New Zealand. Outside of university, I love to drink coffee, spend time with whānau and friends, and go to the gym

Sophie London

Sophie London (Ngāti Rongomai, Ngāti Pikiao, Ngāti Whakaue)completed her Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in Psychology and Public Policy at Te Herenga Waka – Victoria University of Wellington in 2022. Her research interests focus on early intervention for parental mental health, leading to greater outcomes for whanau and wider communities.
